 CONFINT: Small Actions, Big Impact

Working together for a cleaner and more sustainable Mendoza

Over the last few days, our CONFINT students have taken another important step in our project Towards a cleaner and more sustainable Mendoza”.

After observing different areas of the school and identifying some real problems related to waste and recycling, students moved from analysis to action. Their mission was simple but meaningful: to make waste separation easier, clearer and more visible for everyone in the school community.

To do this, they designed and created handmade signs in English and Spanish for different recycling points around the school. These signs help students identify where each type of waste should go: organic waste, plastic containers and aluminium foil.

One of the main ideas was to connect recycling with studentseveryday routines. Fruit peels, apple cores, sandwich leftovers, napkins with food, plastic wrappers, bottles, cartons and aluminium foil are all common items during break time. However, if they are not placed in the correct bin, they become part of a bigger environmental problem.

The students worked creatively and collaboratively. They prepared signs such as Organic waste, “Here only plastic containers and Aluminium foil, adding drawings, examples and clear instructions. Then, they placed them next to the correct bins to guide the rest of the school.

One of the most original proposals was the aluminium foil challenge. After break time, students are encouraged to turn their aluminium foil into a small ball and throw it into the correct container, just like scoring a basket. In this way, a simple daily gesture becomes a fun and responsible environmental action.

This activity shows that sustainability does not always start with big speeches or distant problems. Sometimes, it begins in a corridor, in the playground or next to a bin, when someone decides to do the right thing.

Through this project, students have not only practised environmental vocabulary in English, but also developed key skills such as observation, teamwork, communication, creativity and social responsibility.

CONFINT reminds us that a cleaner school is not achieved only by placing more bins. It is achieved when students observe their surroundings, understand the problem and take action.

Because taking care of the planet starts very close to us:
by taking care of our own school.
